Wrede became a full-time writer in 1985 shortly before the publication of her fifth book. Carl who linked her to Lois McMaster Bujold, the renowned for American speculative fiction. During the fall of 1980, the author met Lillian S. Wrede sold her first book to Ace Books (American publisher of fantasy and science fiction books) in 1980, and the book was published two years later in 1982.
She was a pioneer of The Scribblies alongside with Will Shetterly, Pamela Dean, Emma Bull and Steve Brust. Wrede wrote her first book in 1978 while working as a financial analyst an accountant at the same time. The author decided to soldier on with her higher studies, and in 1977 she graduated from the University of Minnesota with an MBA. Two years later since her graduation, she married James Wrede but due to unforeseen circumstances divorced him in 1991. She attended Carleton College where she graduated with Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology. She was born on 27th March 1953 and is the eldest of five siblings.
